Nitrous Oxide

I'm planning to install a NOS system on my 78  super sport, any advise out there. What kind of real gains can I expect and where are the pitfalls, I obviously don't want to burn valves or pistons, but for short bursts of power I'm thinking this is the cheapest way.
Thanks

NOS sounds cool. I would make sure the engine is in very good mechanical order, and get a kit from a reputable company. It should have every thing you would need. Including any jetting instructions. I would also update the ignition to an electronic one. Maybe a Pamco? you are going to need it to fire the extra gas when you hit the button.
However I think that is a lot of $$$$$$, for a short burst of power. For about the same money you could install an 836cc kit, and have extra power all the time Cycle-x has a kit for around $270.00

Thanks, I plan to buy from the NOS company, they produce a lot of kits for all types of motors.
I have researched the 836cc kit and in order to achieve real improvements it is necessary to increase compression, have heads ported & flowed as well as go to a higher lift cam. It is also necessary to bore out the cylinders and beef up the studs. When you add all that up and throw in a full set of gaskets, you have a kick ass bike, but you have a lighter wallet by the tune of several thousand dollars. Plus now you have a gas guzzler, kind of defeats the purpose.
The fact is I like the performance of my ss, but occasionally I just want to kick some wise guy's butt with some vintage iron. I have read that Nitrous will do that for less than $1000.00 and the horsepower gain should be about fifty percent more than stock with no internal motor work, I think that works out to close to 100 ponies on demand.
Since I haven't done this yet I'd love to hear from someone who has done it and either debunk what I have read or add some real data from personal experience.
Thanks again for the feed back
