I have a 78 cb 750f and it was running great. When I parked the bike and came out2 hours later, the bike would not start up. I turn the bike on and I get nothing, no lights or gauges go on. I tried kick starting it and no go and a even tried push starting it.
The bike did have dew on it when I came out, but not anymore than normal. All wires seem to be plugged in as far as it can see.
Any ideas??

Yeah,no way the ignition is gonna fire without voltage.You must have lost juice somewhere.Check the main fuse.If it goes,it ALL goes.If that checks out then I would get a volt meter and start at the battery,then go from there.More than likely it is something simple.Either the main fuse or a wire broke/came loose.

I checked the fuse and moved them around and now the bike is back up and running! Not sure if it got a little wet or what. But thanks for the advise.
Case closed!

If I were you I'd replace them all. Fuses are very cheap. Getting stranded is a hassle.

Fuses arent exactly something that deteriorates.It would be a good idea to put a few spares on the bike somewhere,but their pretty much a GO or NO-GO item.Not trying to be rude,I apologize if I sound that way.Wet shouldnt really bother it.More than likely the fuse was loose in its holder,or there was some corrosion in the connection somewhere. A little preventative maintenance can is worth a whole lor when you're out and away from your tools

As suggested, get new fuses. if you can, find a new block though. The old one is ok though.
So, either get some light grit sandpaper and clean your current block up, or get a new block that uses blade fuses. I plan on doing the blades sometime myself.
If the issue happens again though, check the connector to the ignition switch, they can get loose sometimes on the inside.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Hummm, it looks like even with a new fuse it keeps blowing. The bike will start up but then blew when the highbeams went on and another time when the bike revved high.
I'm thinking that the fuse box needs to be replaced. Anyone know where to buy a three bladed fuse box and should I stay at 7 amps or can I go up to 8 or even 10. Those are so much more common to find.

I have heard other people talk about problems with wires shorting out in the headlight bucket.That may be your issue.Since it happens when you rev the bike it may be causing just enough vibration at upper rpm's to cause something to move over and short out.Also considering it does it when the high beam wire is energized.Just something to consider/check.As far as a 10 amp fuse,i believe that the gauge wires that Honda used should be able to handle a 10 amp fuse with no problems.IMO. I suppose I'm one of the lucky guys.I still have the stock fuse block on my '76 and , as far as I know,the original fuses.But who really knows.Good luck bud

The fuse box connections on these bikes are not very good, and will cause them to heat up, and blow fuses. I replace mine with 3 wire in blade type fuse holders. I then use a 20amp blade type circuit breaker, and 2 7amp fuses. Less then $15.00 and good, for life.

Hey tools,
I'm not to savvy when it comes to electronic components so sorry if I sound super noob. I understand bout changing out the old tube fuses to bladed ones, but what do you mean when you mentioned the 20amp breaker?
Also, I've been looking around town and can't find any places that sells a 3 bladed fuse box. Where did you get your components to make this upgrade??

Your local Autozone,Advance,O'Rielly's or even Walmart will have a fuse box that will hole baled type fuses. he breaker that Tools mentioned is a reset-able circuit breaker,instead on a one-time-pop! fuse. Any auto parts store and Walmart carries them. If you go to an auto parts store and tell them what you are looking for they should be able to help you...as long as you don't end up with the hair-in-the-eyes i-can-only-look-up-parts-on-the-computer kid that i usually end up with.
The breakers look like this.There are a couple different styles,but i know Advance Auto carries these
You can get single circuit fuse holders
Or you can also get ones for multiple circuits

I use 3 of the wire in holders that Shiny has in the second picture. Also they have breakers that fit into them. I just cut off the fuse box, and wire these holders in. Then I just tuck them in behind the side cover.

My main fuse went out on me on the freeway 2 years ago. In a nice sized pack on our way to a Chickenfoot concert. I felt bad everybody being late on my account. But, yeah, thing just shut off on me. All my fuses looked perfect and I almost didn't give them a second thought since i didn't see anything wrong with them. But I put one of the other fuses in the main's place and everything came back on for me. Like everyone said, I now keep a few fuses in the pocket under my seat. It just isn't worth not having something so simple on hand. Glad you're back up n running though!
