No spark

HI guys I would like to jump in with a question on the spark issue, I have  79 dohc  L with no spark I just picked up. right now its down to the frame doing a restore,  but when I get back to the spark issue is there a way to  test the ignition parts like the rectifier, regulator, stator est . I'm  not good with ohm meters  yet but get the idea but  which wire's  to hit or point of contact ?? anyway  was wonder if any one had any suggestions ?   would be nice to install working parts as I put this thing back together  very excited to see it on the road .............with me on it :)
