OIL IN #1 EXHAUST PORT?

slownugly007
Havent been on in awhile and started messing with me bike again....it was rideable for to long!???  Update from last time, got  new battery, K&N filter and NGK iridium plugs for it and it starts up without any effort. Pretty amazing really! I can let it sit for a few days, go out, hit the button once and it fires right up! What a difference. I used to have to crank that thing 4-5 times while  giving it throttle and choked out.

Now on to the good stuff....My name is Slow and I have a problem (crowd responds: "Hi Slow!") When my bike was down for a week I got antsy and I justified to myself that since I cant ride it and Im waiting on parts that I should paint my tank...3 weeks later....its painted but the exhaust is off of it. I bought a mac 4-1 before I moved for $50 and Im retro fitting a newer snubbed can muffler on it, I have a feeling its gonna be stupid loud  but oh well! But my problem is when I took the old pipes off I noticed oil in the exhaust port, does anybody know what this indicates?? I know its not good and want to say its from oil getting past the piston rings...bad rings?

So if anybody could shed some light on it Id be appreciated! I think my bikes mad at me for tearing back into it? haha

A little oily deposit in the exhaust port is normal. No reason rip the engine apart. If you are really worried and have nothing to do then do a compression check.
All plugs out, Throttle held wide open, fully charged battery.

You're bike should be mad at you for messing up that awesomp paint job that USED to be on that tank

Yeah, you're losing oil somewhere. Either past a ring or a valve guide/seal. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless it gets to the point of smoking or consuming mass quantities of oil, just ride it. A little extra top cylinder lube aint a bad thing.

Congrats on the move-welcome back to the Mtns

hahaha I know I liked the old paint job, but that rattle can hated fuel and I kept spilling it all over it plus I had the gun metal paint laying around so I made the sacrifice. It looks a little to plain for my taste but its a whole lot more durable. I may add a contrast color to it at some point but for right now I can live with it.

So the oil isnt anything to be worried about? It was wet inside the port which is why it threw up a red flag for me. But if its not a huge worry then Ill ride it out for now.

Thanks bud! Ive missed the mountains and this "florida" bike hasnt had a real chance to hit some good tennessee back roads so im itching to get it out before the weather changes.

What do ya think about the can? Too crotch rockety? It just sitting there unattached for now, I cant decide what I think about it? The mac muffler just looked terrible on it and I sold my stocker so for right now these are my only choices. I wanted something more modern but not too modern...if ya know what I mean? Not sure if it fits the style?

I like it, would look better if the rest of the pipe behind it were painted black too.

What size can is it? I got a 2" in/out glasspack (a lot longer than that muffler) and it really isn't all that loud, just has a good tone to it.

Geez cut me some slack Hellbilly!?  I havent got that far yet! hahaha The exhaust is just sitting there right now, I plan on getting it fitted properly, weld it all up (except the inlet for the muffler, so I can swap out mufflers if need be?) and wrap it with exhaust wrap.

Lol, hey, had to make sure you noticed that giant naked spot

You're gonna do all that before you listen to it? Can always clamp it, that way you have swapability, just don't forget to support that muffler with some sort of mount

Btw if it sounds good I think we all agree we love to hear a good exhaust system, so post up a vid!

Hey Slow, not trying to down your bike or nothing( you know I love it!) but take it easy on those Dunlops in the newfound mountains you have to play with.Trust me on this one. They are really good tires, just not so good for tearing up some curves. Be careful on those bud. I lost my back end quite a few times from slide outs on those. Just putting it out there bud

I should have it welded tonight, at least the mid pipe to header will be. My new exhaust gaskets come in today so I can actually bolt it up and hear it! woo hoo!  As soon as I get it up and running Ill definitely post a vid.

Shiny, dont say that!!!!! I just bought my front tire!? Any suggestions on good sticky tires? Im not planning on dragging a knee or anything but I will definitely be cautious with your warning thanks for looking out bud!

Hey Slow, I wasn't trying to scare you or down your tires. Dunlops are some of the best you can buy. Not bad tires at all. Mine would hold to a point then break loose. Not all of a sudden. You can feel them starting to skip before they Wilde. Not trying to be an alarmist, just putting it out there
