Oil Residue on the Right Side of Engine

mluk1
I'm finding some oil on the right side of my engine where the tach cable is connected to the engine, as well as around the 4th spark plug. Could it be a gasket problem with the Cylinder Head Cover?

That or valve stem seals. Can you tell if it is coming from the where the valve cover meets the head? Might help to see a picture.

Damn that seal is in bad shape! A new tach cable seal is about $4 but they last a long time. Easy to replace too. Try that first, you need it anyways, and hope that is it!

I concur with re-run. It's a pretty cheap and easy fix.

Okay, I got the seal and got it on. We'll see if it still leaks.

So how is the leak now? There could still be some from the head but nothing like it was hopefully.

The tach oil seal was the second fix I did to my bike, after getting the rear tire replaced.  My seal was leaking a bit, but not as bad as yours.  Mine's been dry as a bone ever since.  Good job!
