Oil on my leg! What the Heck is this a Harley?

Bubbafunk32
When I'm Riding my 1975 CB750 at about 5100 rpms and I get oil seepage out of the Base Gasket. about a drop or two every once in a while
I am afraid of what this repair is going to cost me since I don't have adequate tools or working area to do it
myself If I keep the bike under 4500 rpm's it doesn't leak. But that's like looking at a cold beer.

Anyone ever have this problem?
I am afraid I am going to have to have a complete tear down to get this resolved

You might need to re torque your head bolts. The valve cover needs to come off. You might be able to get by without having to pulling the head or block if your'e lucky. Where are you located? Someone may be glad to help.

Thanks I was thinking that too, I live in MN near Mankato MN.

Do I have to take the motor out to tighten these bolts?
anyone have a PDF file of the shop manual for these motors I'd like to see the inside of the motor.

Just found out I gotta take the motor out to re-torque the bolts
Looks like I'm gonna have oily leg for awhile.

I have a friend that makes hill climbers out of these but he doesn't work for free
I'm just gonna ride the thing leaking

When I bought my bike just over a year ago, the PO had the two top sides of the frame cut out to get the top end off, leaving the center middle section. The side sections cut out are about 12" and then you get 4 pcs of pipe just big enough to slip over the frame tubes and then drill holes on each end and bolt them back in place. This will allow you to get the valve cover off with no problem. I can maybe get a picture and email to you. You may be able to google this to get instructions. I think this method was very common on these bikes. It also makes it a lot easier to set the valves while you have the cover off.

I don't know if it would have been my first choice either but it works. I've seen somewhere (I can't think of it now) where they actually sell the frame kit to do this so it was pretty common on these. A guy that works for me here was a CB 750 mechanic back in the 70's and said they chopped frames all the time. Otherwise, pull the motor which isn't that bad. I've had the motor out of my Goldwing to replace the stator in the back of the motor. Now that was a job!
