Oil seep after first long ride...

heath1066
Newb.  First post...

Took my 82 CB750c fori't first long ride (190 miles round trip). On the way out, it was all two lane highway and scenic roads, on the way back it  was the highway.  About halfway back, she started to seep oil from the the front left cam cover, nothing crazy, but I could notice it.  It's not a leak, just a seep.  in the two days since, I have noticed a tapping from the left side of the engine...

Ideas?  I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to replace the gasket, it's at least ten years old.

Replace the gasket, and check the valve clearance while you have it off. You can get the clearances from the factory service manual. You can download it from the manuals link at the top of the home page here.

Gasket came last night (folded up in an envelope, I laid it out flat on a table to relax...), along with the feeler gauges.  Any sage advice for the gasket and valves?  pulling the tank tomorrow morning...

Well she's done.  Late start this morning, two trips to the parts store (one for a new torque wrench, as the old one mysteriously stopped working. One for fuel line, as the old line pretty much disintegrated as I pulled it off).  No more leaks, rode around still good.  Valve lash was good, kind of all over the place, but within spec.  Got a case of "while I'm at it" and replaced the plugs as well, and boy am I glad I did... I swear, three of them were only finger tight.  Finger. Tight. None fouled though, so I got that going for me.  Oddly enough, now that the plugs are replaced and tigh, idle is smoother...
