Picked up an 81 k

Ya, a friend told me about this one.
We were talking about collecting.
He knew I was partial to the first dohc era bikes.  1979 to 1983.
I mentioned I almost had the 3 I wanted.  That is an SS, a K, and a C.
But, I got an offer I could not refuse awhile back on the C model, and sold it.
Which left me with my SS.
Bummer.

Well, he told me about this car dealer that had a K model on the back of his shop, had just been sitting there for years.

Made the deal without seeing it.

But, talk about a hassle with the title.
The dealer had taken it in on a trade for a car.
From the guy's wife. Who had become a widow. And lived somewhere in Florida. After moving from a Pennsylvania.  Nobody was really sure where, but somewhere in Florida.
With the dealer and bike in Pennsylvania.
Only sure thing was the guy was dead, and the title was in his name, but couldn't be found.

But, the dealer had this really fancy piece of paper, from the Dept of Motor Vehicles in Pa.
Even has a big gold sticker on it.  And some kind of official stamp!
Was told it would trump any issue on getting a new title in my name.

Not.

My State, West Virginia used to take that document, I was informed by the nice lady at the counter.
Years ago.  But had changed the rules.
Nada no more.

Ended up taking it to a Title Company located near the West Virginia DMV.
The girl said she could make it happen, but it might take some time.
$175 and 4 months later, she delivered.

Ya, it was a hassle.

But, this is what I have now. A 1981, or 82, I can't remember right now.
All Oem. Blue.  6,209 miles on it.  Rough from sitting in a shop without a tarp on it.
But it's all there, even original tires.
And a title in my name.

Now, if I run across another C model from that era..........

WoW1 That is nice! You know, about $80.00 and two weeks time, and Vermont DMV would have taken care of your title problem. I have done it several times with old vehicles.

That's a good thing to know.  Gonna make and keep a note of that one.
