Plugging the Tach

nilsthenomad
My tach isn't working accurately anymore. I think the gears inside the tach are stripped and grinding, so I want to just disconnect it. Does anyone know a way to plug/close up the tach cable entry point in the valve cover?

SOHC tach plugs can be bought for about $20-25. I haven't seen any readily available tach plugs for the DOHC.  If you really want cheap & easy, you can cut an old tach cable off and just cap it with a rubber vacuum cap.

I have made a couple tach plugs for DOHC bikes. One was flat across the top and the other was domed. I can post.pics if your interested. I'll make you one for $25 if that sounds good to you.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had seen some SOHC tach plugs around on the net, but the DOHC's are pretty hard to find. As far as I could tell all of the plugs were basically plugged manufactured tach cable ends. So, I actually had the same thought at you Shiny and cut off and plugged the end of the tach cable.  Thanks for the offer to make one for me though and for the help, as always.
