Primary chain tensioner

Kirk Creswick
I'm replacing anything rubber during my rebuild of my 1980 CB 750 F, but I've found that some items such as the primary chain tensioner are difficult if not impossible to find as NOS.

What are you doing when it comes to assessing the primary chain tensioner?

Where can replacements be found?

I was lucky enough to find both the primary and secondary cam chain tensioners at a local MC junkyard.  Rice Paddy in Columbus OH.  I think I paid maybe $20 for both.  They didn't look too worn, compared to the ones I took out of mine.  Most of the plastic/nylon on the old ones was gone.  Probably what killed my cam chain.

I'm sure there are some used parts out there that are serviceable.  Just have to ask around, and keep digging.

Maybe you should go over to the DOHC website. They would know more.

Based on the replies so far, it appears that used is the only option.

The ones on eBay look about as good as mine.
