QUESTIONS

lcochran
Yesterday i tried to trace my electrical short(at horrible failure).   Lets just say im not electrically inclined.  However, isnt this correct?  If my bike is grounded properly, i should be able to place the red lead of my multimeter onto the battery and the black lead to the frame, and get the output of the battery?

If that is not true,  can someone give me some basic tips or a good mini lesson on where and how to trace my short.  Two weekends ago i had a complete loss of electricity to all the bike, a short time later it cranked right up, so i shut it down to get dressed and another soon follows a complete loss of energy, however the battery is fully charged.
thanks

Well I never tried the first part so I dont know!

The second part sounds like a bad or dirty ignition switch.
Get a can of contact cleaner spray and spray it inside the switch.
Also, check the plastic connector, they also get dirty or go bad.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

RE: QUESTIONS

Do you mean I should take the ignition apart and clean it? Or just spray it directly into the slot where the key goes in?

In most cases you should just be able to spray it into the slot. If you can, find the contact cleaner that includes lube. It is out there, another member showed me. Made by crc.
