Rear frame hoop

hc243102
So I'm trying to build a rear frame hoop. Sounds simple, however I wore my phone book out calling around trying to find 1" steel tube (thin wall) and no one seems to mess with it or know who does.

This is what I'm trying to make.

I don't know where, you are, but here in KC there is a place called "Metal by the foot" I have bought all kinds of metal there. 1 inch .120 wall mechanical tubing is only $1.55 a foot. A lot of scrap iron places also handle new steel. If, you can't find it, I could pick, you up 2, or 3 feet.

I'm in southern Ohio. I've called every scrap metal, metal fabricator, home improvement, industial supply, steel plant in my area. I think it would be easier to get my hands on plutonium. Tools I would gladly pay you to send me a piece. Lowes only has 3/4 inch steel.

Plutonium?  No problem.  CVS carries that behind the counter, and Walgreens has a whole aisle for that.  But steel tubing?  Fuggetaboutit.

There are a few chopper/MC shops in your area.  Maybe one of them would have what you're looking for.

Ohio chopper shops

I'd call the ones who actually build the bikes from the ground up.  Who knows, you might make a friend or two, plus chances are they'd have a bender as well.

How long of a piece do, you want, and is .120 wall thin enough? I can get thinner, but I use the .120 myself. I could go by the place Mon, or Wed. I go by it on the way to School.

Any thinner, and, you might have trouble welding it.

Get 1 inch TUBING with .120 wall thickness.

Any steel supplier.
You can go on to Ebay and get it from shapiro steel.
I will give you the link. But you will need a tube bender.
Not a pipe bender ,NOT a conduit bender. A tubing bender.

I'll pick it up Mon, and, you can paypal me the cost of the tubing, and postage. 3 feet should not be too bad to ship. I bought some tubing a few weeks ago, and it was $1.55 a foot.
E-mail your address.

This reminds me:

TOOLS, I'll need you to pick up a blacksmith's anvil for me.  The 400 pounder will be sufficient.  I think we agreed on a penny a pound, with free shipping.  Let me know when you have the tracking number.

For the humor impaired:

Seriously, I'm reminded of a story where this company wanted to build a brick building in Alaska, and were trying to find the cheapest way to get the concrete blocks delivered.  Overland was expensive, and shipboard even more so.
Turned out that the cheapest way was to label every block, and send them via the US Postal Service.  Can you imagine shipping 4000+ concrete blocks via the US mail?  Amazing.  Apparently, the USPS dropped off a couple of semi trailers, made sure every block was labeled and had postage on it, and off they went. Builder got what they wanted, USPS made a little change, everybody's happy.
