Removing carburetors on a 1974 K4

Wysocki
I am the original owner of a '74 K4 and have decided to get the bike running again. I flushed the carbs and cleaned the lines and 'ol Betsy actually fired up! However, I had to shut her down quickly because fuel was running all over the engine. Turns out there must be some bad "O" rings on the "T" connectors between carbs 1 and 2 as well as carbs 3 and 4. I'm about ready to dig in and pull the carbs off to replace the o-rings. Any suggestions or tips that I should be aware of?

If you are ok with pulling the carbs off, like all the obvious connections like pull the gas tank, throttle cables, air box, etc, I would clean out the jets, replace bowl gaskets and fuel tee o-rings. The tees you say are leaking each take 4 of them. I bought an entire assortment of metric o-rings at Harbor Freight for like $7. I also replaced the valve tappet cap o-rings from this kit. It's pretty easy getting this done but keep in mind if you pull the throttle pistons out, keep the sync screws as close to the same distance and you will want to re-sync the carbs when you are done. If you have a manual, you should be fine but if you have specific questions, fire away.    Paul
