Removing the advance lock nut on the starter clutch

My starter has been slipping and sure enough when I removed the left cover the 3 nuts holding the main gear were loose. I've read a lot about this problem on the forum here and know that with a little loctite and a tighten the problem will be fixed, but  I was hoping someone could give me a good description of how to remove the advance lock nut so I can get at the 3 loose bolts. I've looked in the manual and it looks like I need to hold the outer ring with a wrench and then loosen the inner nut or visa-versa. It's a little to vague to interpret and I don't want to break anything.  Can someone give me a little play-by-play on getting these off?

I did that job on my 82 CB750F a few months ago. No tricks, no traps, just a ring spanner and a socket needed, as shown in the FSM, page 8-11.

Thanks for the confirmation. Unfortunately, ended up rounding the nut and having to use an extractor as it appears the previous owner had put some JB-Weld instead of loc-tite on the threads. Finding a lot of fun stuff like that as I rebuild this bike. ;)

Man, I would never do something like that. Sooner or later a bolt will have to come out or a nut come off.
