Replaced handlebars now clutch hard to pull and brakes locked up

adilp
So some background I have a 1982 750k and everything is basically stock. I removed the stock handle bars and put on some clubmans. Now it was more or less a pretty straightforward and easy install. However the clutch is really hard to pull, it works but I think when I took everything off the handle bars and it was kind of dangling over the side the pressure built up? Same thing with the brakes and now the brakes look like they are tight on the disk.

Any ideas how to fix this and or what caused this problem?

The clutch is cable operated, so pressure should not have built up. First thing to check is cable routing. It should make smooth gentile bends and not be pinched anywhere. Another thing to check is if the cable could be going bad inside the sheath. I have installed cables and had them be hard to pull. Then find out that the cable is frayed inside the sheath. On the brake, again pressure should not have been able to build up. The pads are supposed to be close to the rotors. You should not be able to see light between them. Will the wheel rotate? If it will, you are good. If it won't, try loosening the bleeder. If the wheel will then rotate, you have a master cylinder problem. If it won't, you have a caliper problem. We can diagnose better after these questions are answered.

You were right about the pinched cables. I was able to straighten them out. As regards to the brakes, they spin but I can hear the brake pads dragging. I had put in new brake pads and not tested it out. I drove the bike down the street and back, and the disk was fairly warm from the brake dragging.

The pads do drag a bit on disc brakes. Also it does not take much use of the brake to heat up a rotor. Unless the wheel is dragging, or the brake is not working it should be good.
