Replacement Seat

Spargelkol
I've got a 79 CB750K. The seat is pretty torn up, right now its just taped up to make it rideable, but I am looking at affordable ways to get it nice again. I was wondering if anyone might know what other model bikes I might be able to scavenge a seat from that would fit. I often see newer Harley seats being sold cheap. Also, if anyone knows a place you can get a replacement seat without spending an arm and a leg that would be great info.

New seats? Not sure how much luck you will have there, certainly not cheap. BUT you can get a replacement cover for 50 - 100 or so. You just stretch it over your foam and hook it and go. Not that fast of course but it should not be too difficult. Another option is to get some heavy marine vinyl(it is reinforced on the backside)and take it to an upholstery shop and they will cut and sew it to fix. Might cost a bit more but the results are better.

Whatever you do, remove the foam and check the pan. I had cracks in my cover and water got in and rusted things up real bad. I had to sand blast it and get a couple spots welded. Then I painted it to protect it.

The foam is prett chewed up otherwise I would go with the cover option. As it is I think I need to either refurbish it all the way down to the pan, or replace it completely.

Well you have this option. It would be a whole new seat and SHOULD fit. The bike was listed as a cb750KZ. Now I cant guarantee it but the 77/78 K bikes I think used the same seat mounting. yours is a 79 but the same rule I would think, follows.

This url should get you to the page. It is a little pricey but not too bad considering it comes from teh UK.

Forgot to add, if you choose not to get the seat, you will need to look around for places that sell foam. Get a fairly stiff foam, remember, you butt, not your hand is sitting on the foam!

Then cut it to fit and either get a cover or use the marine vinyl.

Try saddlemen.com. I bought a new seat through JC Whitney and it's great but could not find the passenger backrest for the trunk. I called Jerry at Saddlemen and they made me a cover to match my seat in less than a week. I was happy for $60 and great service.

Sorry, I forgot to say the seat and backrest was for my Goldwing but they could do a cover for about anything.

I think the make or break is the seat foam. If it is chewed or the seat pan is really bad, a new seat might be the only option. Seat cracks suck.

re-run is right about the foam. Saddlemen's cover comes with the new foam and can install it on your existing seat pan or can sell you the whole thing with new pan. Sounds like a plug for Saddlemen but they have done me right for a good price and I've used them for several bikes.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info guys. I will look into Saddlemen. I think the pan is ok, it looks alright from the bottom, the foam is just really torn up. Looks like a dog might have gotten to it or something, which is sad.
