Rotor/Stator

sjackson
So I'm pretty sure I've got charging problems. How do I determine if the problem is with the stator or the rotor?

Maybe Otto or Woods can give you more info. What I can tell you is to check all the connectors. Yours are 31 years old and they do oxidize over time. So a good cleaning may be all that is needed. Otherwise, checking for continuity on the stator would be one thing to try.

We have the honda shop manual posted here. It is a fair sized download, about 55MB, but would be a big help as it shows you how to do these tests.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

The rotor is generally culprit.  Laymans test is give the bike gas and see if the headlight gets brighter.  LOL, but seriousely.

That's great... the rotor is the more expensive part to replace too.

If you don't have a shop manual , it's a worthwhile download . --- Alternator should put out at least 13.4 volts @ 3500 rpm . Good source for charging parts is Ray , ( fasterspider ) on the DOHC forum . -- Best prices too . -- Hope this helps you out . -- Otto
