Sandcast Question What year or years

shultz_1978
Just asking. Can some one tell me what year or years was the sandcast was in production. From what I have read the Sandcasting cases were only use in early 1969 bikes 750 k and the 750 k0 was the production cases. Is this right?

Was 1969 the first year the bikes were sold in the states?

I have read a little about them and they used the sandcast as a cheap way to caste the motor cases. But they did so will in the states they started production casting. That was a faster process then the sandcasting.

Am I right sofar?

Sandcast molds are much cheaper then diecast molds. Rumor is Honda didnt know how well received the bikes would be so they used the cheap molds. Once they took off in sales the went to more expensive/faster production diecasting.

That is what I have read to. It looks like the Sandcast was the early part of 1969 about half way through the year we started the production molds.

This means the Sandcast are fewer then I thought.  I was thinking the Sandcast was in production for 1 or 2 years. Not about 6 months. Is what I am reading I would like to find one of these sitting in some old barn.
