Selling an engine...

JFunkadelic
Hey guys,

Not trying to actually sell this on here otherwise I'd have it under the other header (unless, of course, someone is interested ;), but I have a CB750K engine, SOHC 1977, that I'm trying to sell, and I'm just wondering if anyone has done this?

I put it up on ebay for $400, which I think is a good price compared with the others on there? Would you agree? And I had one inquirer, but once I called FedEx freight and calculated shipping costs he was no longer interested. They wanted $430 to ship from Wisco to Alabama!!! I could drive it there for cheaper (and suggested this), but still too much for the guy.

Anyone shipped something like this before?

And also, anyone weighed one of these before for an exact weight on this thing?

 As usual, thanks.

In case anyone ever pulls up this forum post on some google search, I thought I would go ahead and answer my own query:

I have learned the following: 1) ebay is difficult to navigate, has a terrible user interface, but in the end, easy enough.

I sold a CB750 SOHC engine for $350 (I was asking 4, but that was the offer I took). What's it actually worth? Hard to say, I saw plenty on ebay for around $600. I sold mine in 9 days, those are still there.

Shipping: FedEx Freight ended up being the best way to go. I shipped from Milwaukee to Cleveland for about $270.

And that's all I got. Don't know if it's worth anything, but it was surprisingly difficult for a newb like myself to figure out.

Oh yeah, and best weight estimate on a SOHC CB750 engine, (approximation sign here -- though I believe it's within 4 lbs) 178 lbs.

 Good evening now.

Engines are heavy, so unless a person needs all the internals, selling it in parts sometimes works best.

Or breaking it down, bottom in 1 box, cylinders in another and head in a 3rd. Makes for more packages but they are lighter and smaller and so might cost a fair amount less.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
