Serious Sputtering w 78 cb750f

Rockwork
Hi Gang, please help me fix a serious sputtering problem that seems to have coincided with riding in a torrential downpour 2 days ago.

It does not seem to misfire above 3K rpm, but really sputters and hesitates below 2.5K rpm. I've ridden about 12 miles today hoping any moisture might have gotten dried out, but it doesn't seem to have changed.

All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Check your plug wires, and caps. Some WD-40 might dry them out. If that does not fix it, remove the points cover, and check there for moisture.

I discovered one of the spark plug connectors was loose from the wire. I was able to push it back in so that it may run alright.

I've not replaced the wires or coil before. Are the wires hardwired to the coil, in which case I need to get a new coil? Or am I able to temporarily replace the wire? Can I get a temporary replacement from and auto store, or do I need specific for the 78 cb750?

Thanks.

Most of the time you can just nip a 1/4 inch off the end of the wire, and screw on a new cap. vintagecb750 a
nd Z1enterprises both carry new NGK caps for the CB 750s.
