See the return spring? That is one way you can tell they are 1978's other than the accelerator pump feature.

The 1977's have a different return spring but not the coil type, and the 1976's have the return spring in the center like it should be,(non coil) type.

Here is the great ones. 1969-70

I always thought the 69-70 carbd were exactly like my '76 roundtops except for the cables coming out of the top vs. my forks and lift bar setup(not sure what it is called). But I dont remember that big silver plug/screw??? in the side of mine.Wonder what it does?

Very interested at that price.  Anyone know if these will work reasonably well on a DOHC?  I'm assuming that running these would make pods much easier than my CV carbs.

Tools had said before that the older carbs would work on our DOHC, just would have to adjust the spacing in between the carbs so they line up properly.

I could always fab a manifold to make it fit, but I'm doing a little research and am now not to sure it is a good idea.

I know I'm replying to an old message . I was going through  some back messages. I was thinking the same about using old carbs on the dohc . I'm getting so sick of these cv carbs.  Well a lot is my fault because I cleaned the carbs ( every little hole 3times ) before I put them together . But when I cleaned the tank I didnt do it right and got flash rust. So I had to clean the carbs again. I need to find a good jet combo for the kerker exhaust that is drag pipe.  ( anyone have a good suggestion for jets ????).  Sorry, alot said there.  I guess I don't want to give up on the cv carbs and let them beat me up.

for what it's worth I was told by the hold hippie mechanic I use as a brain trust that the DOHC bikes are better off using the stock jetting and using exhaust that gives the stock back pressure.  I did this to my 81 cb750F Supersport and it runs great.  I have 100 mains in it with a stock airbox and I have an annoying burble at 75mph and a certain throttle position.  The book callsW942F for a 97.5 so I got 98's since thats what the Honda dealer can get.  I am planning on putting them in next time I pull the carbs.  I had 102's in it and they were certainly too rich, thing bogged badly.

Ya, pretty much zero chance of me spending $600+ on a new exhaust to match the back pressure of the stock exhaust.  I have a 4-1 no name headers/exhaust that a PO put on.

I just rejetted to a bigger idle jet (up to a #75 from the #68 stock) and it runs like a dream.  The PO already had bigger main jets (#105's) and they seem to be working great as well.  When I had the #68's in I had to have my air/fuel screws out 4.5(!) turns to run at all and it was still running lean.
