If it's been parked a long time with fuel in it, the carburetors are likely to need cleaning. Symptoms would include; hard to start, flooding, fuel leaking, engine won't idle, engine wont rev up quickly, engine runs better with the choke on even after it has warmed up.
Read through the procedures in the shop manual,
which is available for download from this forum, for removing and disassembling the carburetors, to see if it is something you might be able to accomplish with the mechanical experience and tools you have available. Also look through the chapter on the charging system to get some ideas on what might be required to make any repairs.
There are plenty of nice people on this forum that are more than happy to help out with advice and tips so don't be afraid if you don't think you have the experience to work on it.
