Side covers, how much is to much?

Btm24
So just a quick back story I got my all orignal sunflake orange 1974 Honda cb750K back in January as my first bike, and have since then got it running as good as it looks but, thanks to it being my first bike I've had a few learning curves. The last of which was not paying attention to something coming off of the bike on a long ish ride and ended up losing one of the side covers off of the bike. Since then I went on eBay and found out just how much that mistake was going to cost me yikes! The only decent set (that was all original) that I could find is around $180. So my question is just how much should i be willing to pay for these and how much is when I should look some where else? Thank you for any and all advice!

Unfortunately side covers are one of those things that everyone lost, so there just doesnt seem to be that many left out there.  Especially since you are looking for all original and in decent shape.  I guess the better question here is how much are you willing to pay?  People who have all original decent side covers know they are scarce and they are going to charge a premium for them, 180 does seem a bit steep to me though.  Have you checked any local parts stores, or junk yards?  You may have to buy one from the same year and have it painted.  Keep your eyes peeled, keep checking the forums for people selling them, and just wait.  Price is whatever you are willing to pay, sorry I know that doesnt really answer your question.

Price is whatever you are willing to pay,
says it all. the question is never "how much is it worth", but "how much is it worth to you".

It depends on the condition. Do you want perfect with original paint that matches your bike? If, so and they are that, then $180.00 does not sound bad. However if you just want side covers that you can paint to match, then you should be expecting around $50.00 a piece, and $150.00 for paint.

When you do get a replacement, write your name and phone number inside your covers. The guy who found the one you lost will probably just throw it away if he doesn't know who lost it.

Not a bad idea thank you, I'm also going to order new rubbers so it stays on there a bit better.

Well tomarrow they end and I don't see them selling under $300 now, nearly that now :-/.Think I'll just let this one pass and see what else comes up over time. Thank you Tools I really want to keep the bike as   original as possible so I'm going to try and keep new paint as far away as I can.

Sold for nearly $400!!! Last min it went up $100! This is why I hate eBay... Well hope who ever gets them enjoys, and so the search for another continues.
