Smoking Honda CB750 1974

JonathanHValencia
Good afternoon!

I purchased a Honda CB750. Replaced the valve cover gasket. Cleaned my motor with gunk degreaser, and rinsed it off as best I could. Question, i took this before I knew you couldn’t let the bike idle too long (it sat idleing for 15 min or so) and my motor began to smoke. Wondering if anyone has had this happen. Is it over heating? Is it gunk degreaser still burning off? Help please

Below is a video of what’s going on

That is degreaser burning off. However if you are going to have it sit idling for more then 5-7 minutes you should put a fan in front of the engine. It does sound like it needs a tune up though.

Hey TOOLS!
Thanks. I replaced the plugs just a week ago. When you say tune up, what all does that entail on these bikes? What noise are you hearing that leads you to believe that.

Thank you,

I could hear some valve train noise, and cam chain. Plus it seemed to be running rough. A tune up would be to clean the contact points, I use 600 grit wet/dry sand paper. Adjust point gap, adjust timing, adjust cam chain, adjust valve clearance, and sync the carbs. You might need to do a cleaning, and replace the rubber parts on the carbs if it has sat for a while. Although it sounds like a lot, it is all pretty easy to do.

Did you know that you can download the factory service manual from the manuals thread in the "Fours" section here?
