Spawn of Satan(beating a dead horse I know)

barelycompetent
Hey all, sorry I know this topic has been beaten down and discussed over and over, but I just have a few questions for you all.  So I have my carbs off, again, chasing down a pesky fuel leak, I think have that solved, and while I have my carbs off I have decided to do away with the SOS.  I have looked high and low on this forum and else where about removing it, and all I can find is people saying yeah remove it and block this and go on.  So my question is this, all I need to do to remove the SOS is remove all hoses, remove the screw holding it in, and block of the nipple on the number two carb?  Is that it, anything else I need to do to it?  Also after removing it, it wont affect the jetting I had to do with my new exhaust and pod filters will it?  I think that about sums up what Im looking for, so any and all advice is appreciated.  I know that I have to become religious with shutting off the petcock when I stop, and I am already in that habit with my chopper so thats not an issue for me.  I should note that as of right now its working properly, but I just dont want to have to deal with that headache down the road, so while the carbs are already off Im gonna just get rid of it.  Any pro's or cons to keep it or get rid of it, or is really just personal preference?  Thanks again, and sorry for beating a dead horse!
I know enough to get me in trouble.

I think some people recommend putting a little filter on the vent in between the 1&2 carbs. Other than that I think that's it! It should not affect the jetting. It just lets fuel in all the time as opposed to only when there is a vacuum.

No but I have two young kids, 5 and 7 on spring break right now, and I get up at 5am for work!  They dont want to sleep, and yet sometimes they get up when I do lol.  Oh also one more question, I thought I read that the nipple on the #2 carb was 1/8th size?  Is that correct?  Im gonna hit the local hardware store and see if they have any plugs I can use.  Thanks again.

ah I remember those days! (when i was 7, only 13 years ago :P) I think I picked up a #8 rubber screw cap. It was red, which I think is pretty standard.

Thanks Johny I remember 7 too, just 32yrs ago!  I removed the spawn of satan tonight, took all of about 5mins.  The vent tube between the carbs I just left the hose attached and ran it between the pod filters.  Now I just need to get a rubber cap to cap off the nipple on the number two and Im back in business!  Thanks for the advice, its appreciated, even if you are a youngin lol!

If it's temporary, you can use a golf tee to plug a hose.  Just another hint I remember from working on cars in the 60s and 70s. Check your local hardware store for proper caps for those vacuum inlet ports.  I'm sure they'll have something.
