Starts, runs, dies, then clicks

Amandac2323
Hi, I just bought my first bike last week.  It is a 1982 Honda cb750 with 20,500 miles on it.  So far, I have changed the oil, the plugs, and the battery to try to get it to run smooth.  My problem is that the bike starts, hard but starts, runs, but then either dies 20 mins into the ride or doesn't start back up after I shut it off.  It just clicks.  It clicks slow then fast, but the lights don't dim, the signals all work when the bike is in "ON", and the fuel tank is on as well.  But it won't get past the clicking.  I don't know where to start looking, so any info would be great.  Thanks all!

Hi, welcome to the forum, this is the place to find help.
To begin with, even dough your lights are coming on the battery might still be too low. Give it a good charge and try it again.
Your alternator may not be charging your battery.
With the engine running you should be reading between 13 and 14 volts, and with the engine off it should be better than 12 volts on the battery. How old is the battery?

Yeah this sounds like low battery. Charge it and take voltage. Run bike till it dies and take voltage again. If low, then recharge battery and take voltage with bike running. It should be 13-14 as stated before. If not, your charge system is borked. Fairly common from what I have heard. Seems to be a stator in most cases but check connections first.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
