Suggestion/info on brake retro-fit

The calipers are off a 86 Kawi xz6,forks are '81 CB750 C.  When positioned like they are in the pic, this is the only way they will contact the rotor with the full surface area of the pad, unless I fab up an entirely new mounting bracket, which I am trying to avoid if at all possible. My concern is that I would have to make a strap to connect one of the existing bracket mounting holes to go to the upper caliper mount on the fork leg. Not a big deal, but that strap would be under compression rather than tension. These ZX brackets are steel,so welding to them would be a breeze, but i dont really want to modify the brackets themselves. I'd like to make a strap that runs from point A to point B (like in the pic)that way if I ever booger something in the future I can just source another '86 ZX6 caliper bracket, bolt it on and keep riding, without having to manufacture another caliper mount.

My concerns
1-is it safe to do with a strap being under compression?
2-does it look dorky hanging down this low?

Also your break line is going to be hanging out there in the breeze exposed, and it is going to be very hard to bleed. Why not use the Honda C calipers? They have just as much, if not more stopping power then those off brand chinese things, you are wanting to cobble on there.

Actually ,i have three of these calipers. I cant hang them to where the bleed screws are on the top.I just happened to pull this one out of the box,so that part is not an issue.

So NO-No on the strap idea, huh? No matter how beefy?

Thanks for your honesty.Seriously.

If the strap is beefy enough, it would be safe.

I would do my best to use point "A' as the main place to hold to with pad closer the better.
Let me say why,or the rear (my disc) I can fill my tire or(rear) frame wont to move to the right(disc on right)
I use my front most always ,But had to be sure wouldn't lock up so hit it hard a few times. weight of the bike caliper/piston wonting to rotate twards that "new" strap going to have some push,I'd be worried about it tweaking, and maybe staying tweaked.  ..Just my 2 cents worth keep the change.

About the bleeder being in wrong possition ,most all bike newer calipers have same cast L or R just hole taped in one end ony,can be taped for bleeder ,leave other closed. It's just a hole.

I tried it in that position but the pad hangs off the rotor pretty bad. I think these rotors are larger diameter compared to the kawi's which causes this issue. But i agree with you. Mounting the top ear solid would be best.

I took a gamble on these calipers buying them cheap. I have not had any luck finding the parts needed to rebuild the '81C calipers. If nothing else,I got a nice rear master cylinder and 1/2 of a set of ''rear sets'' out of the deal.

How bad is the piston? Have, you thought of filling in the pits with Silver Solder, and sanding them smooth?

That part is doable. But i still need to find the rubber parts. Pads are plentiful. Piston in the ZX caliper seemes to be the same OD as the 81C's. If so,I have that option. But if these calipers are hard to get parts for,I'll just make all new brackets and update the whole works. I know these aren't any stronger, just easier to get parts for.

Powers edge has the caliper parts, you need. http://www.powersedge.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=HOM#/Honda/CB750C_A_%2881%29_MOTORCYCLE%2c_JPN%2c_VIN%23_JH2RC011-BM100001_TO_JH2RC011-BM125225/FRONT_BRAKE_CALIPER_81/CB750C-81-JPN-A/2Y18425AF18425A0901A
Also if they have them, I'll bet Honda does to.

I can even get the piston replated if need be. Not sure it it should be chrome or hard nickel. Still, gotta get the rubber bits first before I dive into that. I have a big chunk of aluminum. Why couldnt I use that to turn a new piston?

Aluminum would be too soft, and wear against the pads.

Didnt know about powersedge.Thank you. As far as getting them from Honda,I priced them at the local shop and he could only find them thru Honda. To do both front caliper and one piston + rebuild the rear master cylinder it all added up to $250. Screw that!

Link is not working on my temporary internet connection. If they got it I'll stick with the C calipers. Thanks again.

HAHA,you sly dog.

Ok,I looked at Alfa's build thread again and i am almost positive his calipers are the same as mine. If so,I'm good. I can find kits listed for 77-78 F's all day long at great prices, but I get nothing looking up an '81C. Parts edge says they have a piston but it's 70 bucks!!! If they ARE the same calipers as a 77-78F then ebay has that piston for $20-25.   Any insight on this? These should be the same calipers as Piute's bike, too. I guess i should measure my piston diameter to find out?
