Suzuki carbs.A little help please!

mike piwinski
My 1982 GS1100e does not like it when I keep a constant speed uder 30/40 mph. When I'm running the bike around 2500 to 3500 rpm it kinda brakes up.If go on and off the gas everything is fine.Running at highway speeds it runs great.I have a full race exhaust on it and pod filters. The bike was jetted a couple of years ago when the carbs were rebuilt.I think one of the jets is incorrect, which one, where in the carb are they. The bike has stock 34mm Mukins on it.Any help would be great, thanks Shiny Mike

What gear are you running in at that speed?
For that rpm, your idle jets are the primary fuel providers. I would run it like that and let it complain and moan for a bit. Then shut it off and pull out the plugs. See what color they are. This will let you know if things are rich or lean.
I will assume you have CV carbs and as such, check the butterfly flaps. Those are your throttle control. I used a wire for cleaning idle jets to set the gap on my CV carbs. That gap check is the "bench" sync for CV carbs. If there are differences in the gap, I would even it out for the time being.
I would also check the diaphragms to make sure there are no cracks in them that would affect the vacuum.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

The bike is going 35 mph at about 2700 rpm in 4th gear.I was playing closer attention on the ride home tonight. It seems any time I'm running under 3/3200 rpms the bike is at its worst. Also anytime I hold a constant throttle it's not quite right. When I go hard on the gas this thing is a rocket! It wants to pull the front tire off the ground in 2nd and 3rd.I think you may have two very good ideas for me.I dont ever remember having the carbs syniced.I belive that should fix the problem. The other is I'm gonna run a little hotter spark plugs.I'll put the plugs in and see what happens. Thanks Mike
