I swapped to Daytona handlebars. They are not keyed so the throttle control moves some, the lights control broke in half when I was tightening, but it stays.
The throttle has to be manually moved back. It is just stiff now. I had to adjust the clutch lever a lot too, it was too tight. I'm thinking maybe I can adjust the throttle near the carburetors? Not sure.
All of the wires and cables are longish now, which might be causing the problems. But I don't know what to do about keying. I'm thinking maybe I can put some bicycle tube in the throttle control piece to make it not move on the handlebars.
What a stupid situation. Keys are from ancient idiot times before the clarification was made that clamping properly is stronger and better.
I like the handlebars better though. Even though they aren't wide enough so my levers won't point up too much at the ends. They feel uncomfortable to use now, Daytona's are not so smart for CB's.
One of your throttle cables ( I think the pull cable) has a threaded portion on it to adjust the amount of freeplay between the push-pull cables. You want just a little bit of slack in there. Not so much that the return cable can bunch up on you, just enough to feel a slight rattle when you wiggle the throttle. That can cause a sticky throttle. That, and sharp bends in the cables. It can be hard to get those cables routed sometimes, you just gotta play with them. Most aftermarket bars are not drilled for the keys since they dont know which bike they will be getting installed on. You just have to drill them yourself. Good luck with it!
I got the throttle to be like it was before, just had to loosen the tension on the cable housing. It was really adjusted out. The same thing with the clutch. I'm still going to put some bicycle chain oil onto the cable to get it feeling tip-top.
The keying part... all I have is a regular hand drill, not sure I can do that.
The broken control is just the light one, it has nothing to do with safety as all functions (hi/lo and horn) work.
