Re: Update on the 1971 cb750

Piute,

It is a RC Mallory set up is all can say about it. I have no information on it other then that. It is a VW cap. It still needs the battery to start. No one has  been able to correctly i.d.  it.  It gives the bike a one of a kind look because I can't find any info on it. I will have to pass one the bigger seat

Re: Update on the 1971 cb750

Piute
This post was updated on .
I've been reading about them and was reading that it (mag.)would be needed cause I had to rid my battery and starter.Got a serial # I can ask on line and get all the info I can get from them(IF you wont),all they have are old used one's on hand ...Piute...

There thought on Mags.

The mag provides, however, a number of excellent services.  First, of course, is that all four plugs are fired separately, which eliminates any trouble with firing on the intake stroke. The ARD mag eliminates the whole stock points, advance and coils, and takes about five minutes to install on a bike.  It is a locked advance (normally at about 32 degrees), and works extremely well.  One tested by us gave little trouble over 13,000 miles, in all kinds of weather.

Re: Update on the 1971 cb750

I wish I had some numbers to offer you but there are no i.d. on this thing. The only thing  I have ever found was that it is made by RC mallory and uses a VW Cap.  I will look over it again and see if I can get a I.D.

Super strong spark with no draw on the battery/charging system, for starters. The fact that your bike now has 4 separate ignition pulses,vs the factory's two,i dont know what advantages that would have

This post was updated on .
Depending on exactly witch one . Not much if not used for racing ,Before /after there were push button starts(kick only) the mag was very popular ,then later learned they could do without most all the electrical weight stator(smaller),no batt. no starter, get the idea.
Myself I'm looking at them and gaining info for the CB750s and add to my collection of OD ball parts that may be of good use later. The 1st (pic.above) ARD is most popular with the 750s NOW DAYS but $$$ why I look around and learn....Piute...

Thank you for looking into it. I do know it has a cool factor to the bike. Everyone who sees is gives me the WTF look and are just as confused as me.  I want to put a clear cap on it.

It would eliminate the need to upgrade to Iridium plugs.  Aside from that, I don't know what it would do for performance.

Re: Update on the 1971 cb750

Paul my Mechanic found this and some more info

Here's a R.C. Kawasaki setup with a mallory duel point distributor.  The R.C. angle drive will accept any magneto or
distributor that is for a type 1 VW engine. Setup with a MSD distributor would be a great way to go.

Would this be common on a unmodified engine or  could i assume it has a 836 kit in it. I want to say the jets are 110 it had a custom air breather on as well.

I couldn't say with out seeing 1st hand,But If was you would find out In the "read" I posted there is a jet size for the 836 and 811.That would be a great start without pulling the engine apart, you have to combined exsaust + breathers also,So may be a bit tricky finding out. Good Luck...Piute...
