Upper fork tubes?????

Hey all

Looking at the 21 13/16 inches uppers from Cycle X. These uppers are like 2" shorter then the stock uppers on my 78 build and I was woundering if I would just cut like 1"-1/2 - 1"-3/4 inches of the stock springs or Has anyone here used these tubes and know what I will need to do?

Just cut the springs. However you could use the tubes you have by cutting the springs, and then putting a 2 inch spacer on the damper rod.

Details are a little fuzzy... but I thought you moved the cut off portion of the spring to the other end of the damper to keep from having slack.

I want to buy new upper because the ones I have are a little pitted. I was planing to lower the bike about 2" and found these lowers. I already bought Shorty shocks for the rear.

Just thougth if I am going for a lower look should I go with shorter uppers.?

Would that not leave me with a nice ride? just lower then stock and I will still have the travel in the lower tubes. Right

The travel you loss. Is that the travel between the lowers and the triple tree?

If you go with shorter uppers the travel in the lowers them self should stay the same. With the shorter upper you should just be getting read of the one to two inches that I have seen guys pushing out the top of the triple tree. Would that not also make it so you don't need too put in a spacer in after cutting the spings???

I do not know. I have never used shorter tubes. I have always just cut the springs, and used a spacer. Thinking about it, you should still have the travel in the tube, but will bottom out against the triple tree.
