Used CB750 Super Sport

mastroiani
Hi, a seller in my area is offering me a 1978 Honda CB750F SuperSport with around 20K miles on it for $1200.

He says there is nothing wrong with it other than that sometimes it smokes a little when its first started if it hasn't run in awhile but once it's warm and you start moving it's fine.  Also there are two support pieces cut off from the frame where some top-end work was done on the engine. He said it's quite common and kits are available to fix it. Small dent on the tank and a few minor dings around the bike.   Initially he wanted to sell for $1500, but he is going to accept my offer of $1200.

I'm wondering if you know what the smoke issue could be?  What possible other repairs and costs could I be facing with this bike and whether it's worth the $1200?

I'm attaching the images of the bike and the part near the top.

Thanks a lot

OK I KNOW that frame kit. It is a very well made unit and will make your job much easier.
The slight smoking on start up is probably caused by the valves. The f2/3 bikes had a different stye valve train and unless redone with new parts, were prone to premature wear.

That frame kit will allow you to remove the head with the engine STILL in the bike, something normally impossible on the sohc 750 unless you had the A bike.

Otherwise that is a very nice bike. What was the name of the guy you bought it from? First is good enough. I wonder if I know him.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
