One of the things I have found about these beasts is that they take time to work in. If you replace a shim and measure it right away, the reading may not make sense. Run it a bit and the shim will seat in and give a true reading. I had a few that I adjusted according to the FSM table and read way off. After several tries I went back to the FSM recommended shims, ran a few km and checked again to fine they were OK.
