Hi, new to the forum. Just purchased what I think is an '80 CB750 but not sure. Before I start spending $$$ I'd like to be sure. I know also there's various 1980 CB750 models as well;Sport,750K. I put the VIN into Carfax and it came back no answer. Wondering if anyone can help me out. Engine VIN# RC01E-2219270 Frame VIN# RC07-2117535. If anyone can help me out it'd be much appreciated.

Engine is 1981 CB750K or F, but the frame number does not seem to be correct. No frame numbers start with RC07.

Thanks for the reply. That's really strange. At first I thought maybe it's not a Honda, but it definitely is on closer inspection, however that shouldn't even matter, it should still come up on a VIN search. Even the sellers registration says those numbers and it's clearly stamped on the frame. Odd. Thanks again.

Can you post some pictures of the bike? This would help in identifying it.

Really hey? Interesting. Do you know what years they made the Sabre? I Googled a question about VIN's starting with RC and it says anything starting with that is Asian made. Maybe Japan?? I'll post a pic of the VIN. Sent from my iPhone On Oct 9, 2015, at 11:16 AM, Maz [via Honda CB750'S] < [hidden email]> wrote:

What I see in the picture is a DOHC CB 750 "K" model. Definitely not any Sabre parts there. If the difference in the numbers between the engine and frame, they never matched back then. As for the DMV not finding it, they always have a hard time with the older numbers. The computers only recognize the newer 13 (I think) digit numbers.

I can see the DMV not finding it, but searched CarFax & CarProof and nothing. I think the frame might be a Sabre, although even my 5th number in the VIN which is a 2 isn't in that list... see attached pic. Not a huge deal, I just don't want to order a bunch of parts and have them not fit. Thanks again for the help guys. That bike was built, and probably taken off the road long before there was such a thing as carfax. What you have is a DOHC "K" model. Made from 1979-1983. That frame is the 79-83 DOHC CB 750 frame, not a Saber frame. There are a lot of differences between the DOHC CB 750 frame, and the Saber frame, and they are easy to tell apart. You will be very safe in ordering parts for a 79-83 CB 750 K.

He's right. RC07 denotes Sabre, but your picture tells us your bike is a CB750K, like Tools said. Anyway, before you start spending money, is your title legit? A dohc CB750 vin should start with RC01.

Just out of interest, Google David Silver, Honda parts here in the UK. Select 'Search by model' then, on the left under 'practical things' click 'identify my model'. He will reply with whatever details are available from Honda records.

I wonder if he is looking at the tag, or the number that is stamped into the neck. I have seen the tags swapped from one frame to another before by people, so they can use a title from another bike. This is illegal, and can cause serious problems, but people still do it. The only number that matters is the one stamped into the frame.

Thanks for the reply, email was down for a day or two. Yes, this is all a little confusing, I will email that guy in the UK, I'm in Canada myself. What gets me is that our registry here has registered that bike and wouldn't do so if it wasn't legit. I'll keep digging I suppose.

If you've already got it registered and it didn't raise any eyebrows then I wouldn't sweat it. Just buy parts for a K model and rock on. If you start investigating it and it does end up as being non-legit, well, then it's all sitting in your lap at that point.

Fair enough, it was more curiosity if anything. Today while stripping the front end off however I came across the Manufacturer tag, it is indeed a 1980, I attached a couple of pics. Easy taking it apart...putting it back together is the 'fun' part. Thanks again ppl, I see myself referencing this forum many times in the upcoming months.
