VM29 Carbs and a 1980 CB750...

Tailspin
Turns out that the deal i got on my 1980 CB750 Custom was even better than i thought...turned out there was a set of VM29 carbs on it! Does anyone know how well these carbs work with this CB.  Also, what should i do to get the most out of them. Pods, pipes ect? If what i've been told is true i can do alot more with these smooth bore carbs.  Info would be great.  Thanks!

Also...any bright ideas on intake manifolds to attach the carbs?  the last set was a rigged up mess.

Here's some pics...

1980 CB750 DOHC

I  tried to show, the ports of the intake manifold are angled inward a bit.  I ordered a set of stock intake manifolds before i realized what i had so i do have those on hand.

Here is the Mikuni 29mm (VM29) carbs that came with the bike.  They were Jerry rigged up to the engine by some random little pipe bits wedged in some dry rotting rubber.

Let me know what else you might needed.  Thanks for looking.

Tailspin,on these bikes all of the intakes are angled, and all of the carburetors have straight throats. it is the intake boots that make the two fit together. If those carburetors you have have the factory spacing and diameters they should slide right in a set of stock intake boots.

I guess what you would need to find out is the spacing of your carburetors.Center to center of the throats. And see if the diameter matches stock carbs. If so,you should be gravy!

Sadly the spacing and diameters are completely different than the stock manifold setup.  I have a set of them and have verified this.  Double checked just a second ago to make sure i wasnt just losing my mind.

You could have custom rubber made for you.

I had a custom rubber piece made for the Integra; I can get you the name of the place if you want.

Just fab up what you need and send it to 'em. They charged me $20 for a custom piece that they made for me (and I even helped to make lol)

Same material they make brake ducting for Nascars out of, too - they were actually making some when they did mine. So it'll hold up.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?
