Valve Job & Bearing question

Ericcb750
Hey guys, I've just finished pulling all the valves and removing the old hardened valve seals. I'm going to lap the valves with some permatex compound before putting the new seals on and buttoning the motor up. I just wanted to ask if I should lube up the valves when putting them back in? I bought some white lithium (water & heat proof) grease but I'm not sure if that is the right stuff....I also have some bel-ray water proof grease I used on the axel of my Harley.... not sure if I should use that..... what is the best type to use for this? Also I'm pulling the fork legs to put on the fork gators and I wasn't sure if they are attached to the headlight brackets or not or if I can just loosen the clamp bolts on the triple trees and they should slide out? I apologize I know that's a lot.

Also the bike is a 1978 CB750K with 17K miles, should I be replacing the wheel bearings and steering head bearing? I have a manual but i'm not sure the best type to get? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks guys.

On the valves, just use oil. Since the 78 K did not come with gators I don't know which type is on your bike, so can't answer that. On the wheel bearings, check them. Just put your finger in the center and turn them. They should turn smoothly, but have resistance. No resistance, or rough, replace them. The stock steering ball bearings do SUCK!!! Just get the replacement roller bearing kit from Cycle-X.

Hey Tools,  Thank you for your quick reply, I really appreciate it. I'll check the bearings and if they're good then I'll just leave them for now and replace sometime down the road. I've received some great advice from you and some others here and I want to thank you. This is my first rebuild and my first CB750 so I am trying to absorb as much info as possible. Take it easy, thanks again.
