Go to the auto parts store like advanced auto, or auto zone (i got mine at advanced) and go by all the testers and there will be a little tester thats 1 inch by about 7 inches and it has a positive lead and a negitave lead, it test battery volts and alternator or in our case stator votls. it also has a little magnet so you can put it on a tank, I believe that for the alternator you have to be atleast above 2,000 rpm's to get the charging system to work. If that checks out ok check your rectifier.(spelling?)
