I'm looking for a back rest for my 79K. I have a Hondaline luggage rack that I think came of a CB650 (but it fits with a little modification) looks like the back rest just slides into the luggage rack.
I'd take a entire rack too if you have one, as this one's pretty rusty. Also looking for saddle bags and/or the mounting hardware.

Check your local area for a bike salvage yard. They may have everything you need. The one north of me, two hours' drive, had very decent trunks, with back rest pad, for little money. With regards to saddlebags, I'd highly recommend Willie & Max: link. I picked up their large, braided set. Not inexpensive, but solidly built, of quality materials (heavy vinyl, won't mildew, or rot, easy to clean, quick-release straps). I purchased another maker's mounting brackets. Here is a link to some pictures: link. They served us well on a 1,900 mile tour, back in 2009. Cheers!

Only problem I had with soft saddle bags is dust. I have a set of fabric sport bike bags and they pick up dust like crazy (on the outside, inside stays relatively clean and dry). As you can see, by the dust on my back wheel, I live on a dirt road and nothing stays clean. The fabric bags just looked like crap all the time and were hard to clean so I was looking at hard bags that I could just hose off with the rest of the bike.

I have a really, really nice set of Bates bags, and trunk with back rest made on it. The bags are the kind that get wider towards the wheel, so that they are large enough, for a helmet. I have all the brackets, and keys also.

Sounds like what I'm looking for. Put them in a pile next to a good 550 engine and I'll pick 'em up at your convenience sir. On Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 3:12 PM, TOOLS1 [via Honda CB750'S] <[hidden email]> wrote:

Thanks bro!
I'm up in the Northeast, closer to Nebraska than KC.
I found a backrest on fleabay a few minutes after I posted this and ordered it. Wish I would have waited now.
I wouldn't mind a different rack though. Did it come off a DOHC bike? They're a little different.

Well the back rest I got from ebay didn't fit The diameter of the tubing was the same size as the luggage rack and the back rest won't slide into the rack like I thought.
I got the trunk with the saddle bag from Tools. Gonna put the bags on the goldwing. The trunk is just huge I don't know if I want to use or not:
Piute: Does your extra rack mount like this?
