What 750 To Get?

RebelSkyRot
Hey everyone, I'm close to buying a 750 and figured it'd be a good idea to get on a forum! I'm going to test ride a couple of 750's tomorrow; one is a 1975 and the other a 1982 custom. I'm wondering if one is more desirable than the other overall. My gut feeling is to go with the '82 if it all checks out, but what would those of you with more experience with these bikes recommend? What are some things I should keep an eye out for that would trigger a red flag? From my own research the main difference I see mechanically is that the '82 has dual front discs, but are there more major mechanical differences between the two? Thanks in advance!

Condition of both bikes being equal. I would go with the 75 SOHC way before the 82 DOHC! The DOHC are not as desirable, and are harder to maintain. Also the DOHC's are much harder to find parts for. And they have junk charging systems, and timeimg chain guides.

The 82 will have more power since it is a DOHC. To echo Tools on buying parts for that 82 model. I have a set of 81 custom calipers that I am trying to rebuild. No easily obtainable kits are offered. You have to piece together a kit from Honda. Total cost with pistons was gonna be over $200. And thats just the front brakes! The brake rebuild kit for a 75 model is $7 shipped. If you need a piston thats another $30.

Buy both and ride the '75 while you tinker on the '82

Thanks for the replies! I'm about to head out to go test ride the '75 :D I cancelled the meeting with the '82 based on what you've said about difficulty finding parts as I am on a limited budget for the bike!
