I haven't done like anything on the bike lately, I have a severe passion for music and car audio and I bought my fiance a new kicker solobaric 12" L3 (Link to sub and box I bought) and a ported box for Christmas, and the asshole delivery guy dropped off the massive box when she was home so I had to install it asap cause she was too excited, and honestly I was probably more excited than her.
So naturally I got subwoofer envy and now I needed a new one, so I have a Sundown Audio SA 12" (Link To SA Series Subs) on the way and because I drive a 2010 Cobalt and the trunk on these things have small openings to them, I decided to build a custom box for it and build it to my nominal dimensions and get it to the maximum volume for the sub and tune it to manufacturer's recommendation.
So, here is my build thread for my box, I realize nobody probably cares but I'm posting this anyways cause I'm damn proud of my work, lol. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/156896-need-help-ported-box-build-for-sa12-in-a-2010-cobalt/

Dang. The stuff ya'll talk about on there is crazy! I couldn't understand any of it! lol.
Buiding is building. Whether it be a bike, a box or anything else. As long as you did it yourself you should be proud.

Lol, what are you guys talking about? It's far less complicated than dealing with these bikes! Just think of it like tuning a muffler on a vehicle, the motor needs back pressure to have a more efficient throttle curve, and depending on how much or little back pressure there is the more power you have at different rpms. Same with a speaker, a speaker is nothing more than an electric piston motor that moves a lightweight cone that causes air vibrations at different frequencies, so in order to increase the efficiency of the power of the speaker you must provide back pressure.
Not sure if Tools is scratching his head cause I have him confused or because he doesn't like subwoofers?

Nah man. It's way more complicated than bikes. You can look at mechanical parts and figure something out. All that frequency...blahblahblah...talk is borderline mystical to me. I saw the chart you guys were using. I cracked up when you posted that pic of the chart on the guys were like" oh yeah, that box looks nice!"...
WHAT!?!? LOL I dont know how get anything out of that chart.
|
|
lol, all it showed was the dimensions of the box and the port, and what frequency the box was tuned to and the amount of cubic ft. Don't worry, I can teach ya'll

New video uploading for my thread, got a pic up now, stupid time warner upload speeds here are a joke so I expect to have the video posted up sometime within the hour... maybe... hopefully... stupid time warner...

Lol, I know man, that light rattles and moves like a motherfucker tho. It was dark and my phone camera sucks. I think I am slamming too hard on this thing before I break it in, but if u have ever seen the way Jacob over at sundown audio tests these subs u would say I baby that thing. I messed with the tuning a little and the sub had gotten louder as it has broken in, and will try to get a new video uploaded sometime prob after Xmas. Also got some second skin sound deadener on the way so I can quiet the rattles and increase the sound quality. The car has sort of eaten up all my time and funds but I needed this, its something I know I can do and do well without too much of a fuss.

We really need to work on your taste in music. No j/k. All serious. lol
|

I never ever listen to this kind of music, unless forced to or unless I got a badass sub, only kind of music that will use the full potential of a subwoofer. I got some pioneer speakers for christmas for the front speakers (cheapies) so that's the next thing on the list, along with the set of alpine type E 6x9's I got going in for the rear speakers. Sound deadener still isn't here, scheduled to be here on the 2nd... wtf.... guess that's what I get for finding a free shipping code Btw started a build thread for the car so I can keep track of what I'm doing and maybe get some bragging rights. I know you're my biggest fan ribs, should've named this thread "Hey Ribs, Look At My Speakers!"
