What do you think my issue is going to be?

FastCletus
Hello all, just signed up to forum.  I just finished a CB 500T cafe build now on to my next project 1980 CB 750 F.  I bought this last week.  It was crashed and who knows how long it sat.  It had some ignition issues that i just replaced, waiting for new key to start, or to see if it starts.
My question is based on this picture with all this oil around the exhaust does anyone foresee any problems I am going to experience?  I am guessing its a leaky valve cover gasket what say you?

I have the 75 version of this bike, Had the same problem oil leaking down the front and then all over my shoes while riding. ended up making my own gasket for the valve cover and no more leak. Also check the hole where the tach plugs into the motor. Mine leaked a little from there.

Thanks.  I cleaned the whole area off with a pressure hose, so being that I jsut got it running, once she gets warmed up, I should be able to find where the oils was coming from.

I did swap the plugs and cylinder 4's plug did look like it was bent at the top.  So thinking valves might need adjusted??.  All other plugs seemed fine

Will keep you all posted

As far as valve covers go, DOHC was SOOO much better than SOHC. I have a 1981 750K, and you can remove the valve cover with the motor on the bike. Good luck, SOHC guys!

Remove the valve cover, then do a valve adjustment. It uses shims, and you'll need the shim tool to get 'em out. I would do it anyways, as you don't want to mess a valve up. After you do that, put some Hondabond or similar product into the grove on the valve cover, put a new valve cover gasket in (they're decently priced, DON'T make your own) and tighten everything down.

Amateur-lesson tip: remove your spark plug wires from the coils. These will allow you a little more clearance between the motor and bar. You will be amazed at the room if you do this. I know I was.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

Checking the valve clearances is super easy.

There are instructions in the FSM, and here is a video of it being done on a cb900 (same procedure).
