What is this?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this silver cover is and what is under it? It is right below the carb and I have been having an accumulation of some amber liquid (gas?) on the edge.

Thats awesome. Mythical box that if opened would release evil into the world...or something along those lines.

It's your starter cover. Nothing to be concerned about of you open it. The stuff you see if probably just old crustified gas (technical name) that has gathered around it.

Used to show up crustified all the time....but now it keeps showing up wet no matter how many times I wipe it off after riding. When I come back to ride it at a later time it's there again....can't seem to tell where it is coming from. The arrows show the areas where the liquid collects.

Gas could be dripping down onto it from your carbs and just collecting in the spots you showed.
