Where to get Honda manual for CB750 K5/Wiring issues/Exhaust repair

waddellpc-3
Hi,
I'm new to the forum.  Just bought a 75 cb750K as a winter rebuild project. (I'm game, some general experience with 80's Yamaha in line 4's but not with a cb750K )
1. where do I get a hardcopy shop manual - from Honda dealer, or on line? recommend Clymer or Haines?
2.  It has some electric wiring problems (neutral light is actually oil light etc., some crossed wiring I guess)
any recomendations on how to isolate such issues?
plus - there are 2 wires sticking out of starter button hole and will spark if touched together but only a click in solenoid - starter button  is gone - do I have to replace entire RH handle casing or can I get a new starter button?

3. The mufflers look good but have a few holes on lower left and upper right- Can these be welded or repaired or is this too hopeful...looks like I have to replace them? ouch....
Overall its in good condition and runs well using the kick start - I'm really looking forward to this.
any help would be great

Well , you can sometimes find an NOS exhaust system on ebay for about a grand . -- As far as manuals go , I use the clymers version and it has served me well . -- Some of the guys say that one has some info. the other doesn't , and visa-versa . -- So I guess you just have to try one and see if you like it . -- Sometimes you can also find HONDA service manuals ,( ebay )  but if your luck runs like mine , the first time you went to use it the pages you need would be missing . -- Good luck on your project . -- Otto

I have a Clymer they are available all over. Try Amazon. Somone mixed up your idicator wires. If your handlebar switches are jacked up you have to buy the entire switch. No one sells the internal parts. Best bet is to find a motorcycle wrecking yard. But make sure its all there. Those hand switch assemblies are going to cost you if you go with NOS. You may find a reproduction at reproduction decals.com

Ottodoctor is correct. My new OEM set of Honda four separate stock exhaust pipes set me back just
over $1,000. Classic Motorcycle Supply in the Netherlands had them two years ago. Oh I also got nailed by customs when my pipes flew into Sacramento international airport. They look sweet though, I always get comments from folks when I putt around on my bike. They sound nice too. Oh and I would avoid buying anything on Ebay especially what sellers call OEM. Go to CMSNL or David Silver Spares in England. Ebay is my last resort and I've been burned by the crooks on there.

Thanx for the input.  Right now I'm using the on-line manual at www.classiccycles.org/1852/3701.html until I come across an original Honda printed version somewhere - you never know. 2. I'll keep trolling ebay for exhaust before committing to new OEM. ( I wonder how much longer Honda will provide OEM mufflers...? could discontinue any time I guess? )   3.  Local wrecker here in Toronto actually sells the starter push button only - generic - I'll report back later if this works out.
Thanx again - she's a real beauty. No doubt I will have more questions soon. Plus, i will post my 'wish list' for parts soon just in case somone has a line on a few odds and ends - like an oil pan! or how about upper front fork chrome covers/headlight brackets?, or pull throttle cable and housing - its going to be fun trying to revive her over the winter.

Finding an original Honda shop manual will be difficult and costly. There are several good ones out. I have the Clymer which covers all SOHC from 1969-1978 including the F models. Just to give you an example, I had the original Glenn manual for the kawasaki 250-750 two stroke triples. One sold recently on Ebay for $300.00. Like an idiot I gave mine to an Irishmen who bought my 500 last year. Should have kept it. A problem I have seen with the aftermarket repair books is in order to save costs the wiring diagrams are black and white not color like the originals. Makes troubleshooting a pain. Good luck.

you lucky guy!
just google your bike details and owners manual and download electronic version or go to motorccle shop where they sales/service that bike.
I have a 74 cb 750 I bought for $400, fixed (or some problems ignored) and have been riding it a decade since, very reliable bike.
Since my 1st new cb 750 honda bought in 1972 when I was living in Baltimore, I have yet to find a "dud" 750 honda. They are g r e a t  B i k e s. The 750 inline four cylinders from Honda was one of the first wave of SUPERBIKES hitting the shores of consumerism in the late sixties and early seventies.
You are owning a legendary machine that is great to own and one of the best values available in modern motrcycling. Enjoy!
