A member named polymer had a post on this sometime back. If you go back a few pages or search his name, you should find it. Somewhere by his name, he had a website with some info he put up on it that had some info for this. I will see if I can dig it up too.

Found his site http://polymer52.webs.com/motorcyclediysinfo.htm
Looks like a lot of links to other sites. I did not see anything though pertaining to auto coils so it may have been in a different post of his.

You may try emailing him and see if he responds at all.

Enter "ignition coil replacement" into the search box, and you will find what you are looking for.

Keep in mind that the GM coil deal is for the DOHC bikes with CDI ignition stock.  Not sure what the coil differences are when compared to the SOHC model....Probably fine.  The DOHC coils suck, but the rest of the ign is pretty good, so this is a common upgrade (or dyna coils).  Most common for your SOCH is to replace points ign with a full dyna setup which I believe comes with coils.

The sohc coils are 5 ohm stock. But you are right, a dyna is a common change, either the dyna-s or 2000.
My S came without coils but you can most likely by them together.
