johnnya
hello folks, its good to join this excellent looking forum. i am in the process of buying a cg750f1, it is on a v uk plate and was registered 1st august 79...does this sound about right and was this model still avaialble then ?? or should this date be the f2 ??

also, any bad things i should be looking out for, thew bike look prettty much original and has had not restoration work done, has plenty of paper history etc and is mot`d.

any help would be very appreciated.

Well registered means nothing. Look on the neck at the id plate. You will see what year it really is there.

If it runs, and the guy selling it will let you do it, do a compression test. You gotta take the seat and tank off to get at the plugs, but that only takes a couple minutes and unscrewing three bolts. Plugs are 18mm, so make sure you got the right deep socket. This will also give you a chance to check out the condition of the plugs. Don't be surprised if he says no though. Even though I'd be happy to let anybody do it to a bike I was selling (actually, I'd do it for them,) not many people are willing to let a stranger take their bike apart. But a 30 year old bike could have engine problems, and this is probably the fastest way to figure out if it does.

Maybe on the dohc but on the sohc the tank does not need to come off. I am still unclear though what year the bike actually is or I might have better advice.

The steering neck. it is the very nose of the frame.
