buying a title

ksharp
so im working on another project and i need either a brand new frame and title or a title, and get my frame stamped but my problem is the guy i want to buy it off has the frame and will sell me the title if i get the title and he sells the frame to some one else could that some one else ever register that vin thats on the bike even know he dosnt have a owner ship ?

so i need a clean title to stamp on my frame
if i buy a title, can he still register it even know i have the title?

Short version depends on the state,I'd check local law's ,here in Missouri they say you can't get a "your" title to a bike with-out one , but what if you took to state that could ?

Your playing with fire!!!!! Even if, you have a title. Stamping numbers in a frame is a big No, No. Good way to get a bike impounded, and never get it back. And even worse, go to jail!!!! You should either buy the titled frame, and build off the stamped neck, or build/buy a new frame, and use the proper documents to obtain a builders title.

I agree with Tools 100%     i wouldnt go down that road.    We lost a windshield on a Mustang one time and it tore up the VIN tag when it blew.Holy crap what a hassle, and THAT was all legit.

Don't mess around with your title. When I bought my bike the guy had lost the title and had to go to the Highway Patrol and get the Vin checked 4 different times and I had to go once it went to investigations. All numbers matched all names matched  I am still waiting on my title. Tools is right ether buy or build a frame. You start stamping your own # you could in deep trouble

Your sentence structure, is confounding.
But the answer is, NO. if you buy the title, and number; then No one else can use it. The guy could sell the frame, but not use the same vin.
I actually don't see an issue. The vin is on a plate, that is just riveted onto the frame. If you buy the vin plate, with the title, I don't see why there would be an issue with riveting it onto your frame. it seems legit enough to me. But that would make the donor bike register-less, or more... register-impossible.

The vin is not just on the plate. It is also stamped onto the neck. Just look on the other side. Also if, you just rivet the plate onto another frame, and a police officer decides to check it out, and notices it has been tampered with, and they will! Your bike will be impounded, and, you probably will go to jail, and maybe prison, for vin tampering. It is a federal offense. Don't believe me, just ask Tommy Summers AKA Low riders by Summers.
