carb issue

Hello, new to this forum.  i have an 82 cb750 has been sitting for long time.  got it running now at 5k rpm shoots flames out tail pipe and does not rev higher. any advice on what i should be checking or testing for? thanks

Welcome to the forum.  What, you are describing is a timing problem. The ignition is firing on the exhaust stroke. Meaning the timing is retarded. Check the timing, and also check to make sure the advance is working.

The bike only has 1500 miles on it and engine never touched. I rebuilt carbs and replaced plugs. Bike runs. Never touched anything to do with timing. Do you think it would be a timing issue even with that mileage

It's what Tools suggested. that's how the "flames" are even able to come through the pipe, is because the exhaust valves are open when the spark ignites.

It has an electronic ignition, and there are Gremlins that specialize in them.
