this should be more than obvious, but, like i keep mentioning, i'm new to these bikes....
there are what appear to be 2 nipples on the carb rails on my 78... one of them is more than obviously for gas... the other one is a slightly smaller nipple physically higher in altitude by about 1/2 inch to 1 inch...
what's that for? is it a vacuum hose nipple? if so what does it plug into? the factory air box that i don't have?
what is it's function?
i'm wondering if the bike will run correctly without it..
on my T500, there are 2 nipples on one carb and 1 on the other.... with the one that has 2 nipples, one hose goes to a vacuum diaphragm on the petcock that pulls it open to allow the reserve to work... without it, the petcock doesn't work adequately and it wont siphon gas into the carbs... i was able to cap it off at the carb since i was using a non oem gas tank on it that didn't have such a diaphragm, and it worked just fine...
i'm wondering if this is going to be the same way..
i bought a tank from a 74 model for this bike (a 78) and i need to know what to do to make it work..
well.. what i mean is, the petcock is on the RIGHT on the 74 tanks, and it is on the LEFT on the 78 tank, which leads me to believe that the carb setup is different on the 78 than it was on the 74 simply for that reason alone... i dont know what ELSE changed about the setup besides the location of the fuel nipple on the "fuel rail" so to speak... are there vacuum lines that need to be hooked up for the carbs to function?
or can i just.. plug the fuel line in, turn the petcock on and start the sucker up?
The kid i bought it from said he had it running, but, it would lean out and die...
given all the crap i fixed on it to get it to run myself, i SERIOUSLY don't believe he ever had it running himself.. the wiring was all jacked up..
but.. for the sake of argument let's say he did....
then it's very likely that he didn't have a vacuum hose plugged in or something and caused it to lean out...
you guys think?
