Hi Clint.
Good to read about your wire harness. Interesting. Would like to see when possible your work. Wire harnesses are doable. Requires dilligence and patience. Great project !
About the sealing material for the pressure gauge connectors and connections, I think Teflon tape works good. From the information I gathered, Teflon tape is not good when using "Electrical" gauges that require grounding through the metal connectors.
Since our gauges are mechanical, there is no ussue with grounding/ground, no electrical components, all the system is mechanical, oil going through a passage ( connections from engine through nipple pipe all the way to gauge.) and reaching the gauge which records pressure as oil hits gauge mechanism.
Working on an oil temperature gauge as well, mechanical gauge ( to avoid electrical connections and extra issues ). Will bring in my findings soon. Ordered an oil filled oil temp gauge that is threaded, so it could be mounted on an oil passage bolt. As soon as I get the gauge I will see if it would work and if it does will post findings.
Seen some oil temp gauges that work in place of the oil dip stick. I would not want to replace my oil dip stick with an oil temp gauge because how else would I check oil levels? Plus it would have to be some fabricated thing since there is no specific DOHC Honda part made. The other alternative I also do not find atrractive would be an electrical oil temp gauge. Again I do not want to add the electrical sender unit and electrical connections. I'd rather use a mechanical gauge, but unlike the mechanical gauge already mentioned, not interested in replacing the oil dip stick.
The one I am looking after would be liquid filled ( like the pressure gauge) to protect gauge needle and mechanism from engine vibrations and due to its size, easily mounted on this oil inspection bolt ( drilling and tapping the larger bolt to accomodate the threaded gauge ) so as to provide good readings because of location within engine/oil galleries, as well as retaining nice position.
Will keep you posted.
