continued cluth problems

opie18
Hi all,

I recently changed the friction and steel plates in my 1980 750K. Also did an oil change when the job was done. Initially, I had a problem with the clutch not disengaging, which turned out to be me adjusting the clutch actuator incorrectly. Anyway, went on a nice long ride and the new clutch felt great. No issues at all and while I didn't go full out with the throttle, I definitely tested the new clutch without any negative symptoms.

However, I went on a night ride yesterday and right when I pulled out, I noticed that the clutch did not fully engage when the clutch lever was out. This was coupled with pretty severe slipping in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. I didn't go far or fast (obviously) but I assume the symptoms would be the same in 4th and 5th. Anyone have any idea what may have happened? I spent the afternoon today adjusting the clutch cable at all three points. Regardless of how tight or loose the clutch cable is, I'm slipping like crazy. Any help is appreciated....definitely feeling frustrated on this one. I was thinking of changing the oil again...

Thanks!

Have you re-checked the adjustment inside the clutch cover? If that has altered after the clutch plates have bedded down, no amount of cable adjusting will help. Did you change the oil to a different type? You should be using a non-friction modified type suitable for wet clutches.
